Clip one - EASTENDERS
Purpose to entertain. It's a British soap aired in the evenings that gains a following from it's dramatic storylines.
Timeline Starts with a group of women in the pub having a conversation. It begins quietly but slowly they all get louder as an argument breaks out and the women all begin talking over each other and yelling. When they go outside there are heavy footsteps and a train heard in the background. Kat yells out her final line which is followed by an abrupt and powerful silence. Then, the iconic Eastenders theme tune which signifies a dramatic ending.
Effect The build up of noise is keeping the audience on edge, wondering what it's leading up to. Putting the silence after the final shouted line is effective as it leaves you to focus more on what's been said and makes it stand out. All of the shouting leads us to believe the characters are angry and there is some kind of conflict.
Product - CALL OF DUTY
Purpose to inform of / advertise a new game being released in the Call Of Duty franchise.
Timeline Dramatic music slowly building up throughout. It starts with dialogue and a train running along. There's a turning point in the music and everything speeds up and seems more intense. The character dialogue continues, only now we can hear guns, screaming, explosions and more.
Effect All of the war sounds going off are intense and fast-paced which builds suspense, as conflict often does. It keeps people excited for the game as they want to know what will take place when they play the game upon release.
Clip three - MEERKAT ADVERT
Purpose To advertise their company
Timeline Dialogue, followed by music
Effect The use of a popular, upbeat song is a good idea as it'll get stuck in people's heads - whenever they think of or hear that song they'll associate it with this advert which might make them more likely to invest.
