Can you tell what the sound is? Do you like it, if so why/why not?
I can tell what the sounds are, the sounds of the door in specific creaking was my favourite one due to
how clear it was, however the microphone sometimes doesn’t pick up every pitch like the sound of music
playing through a headphone doesn't come through clearly and they should have taken more takes or used
another microphone or even a phone to record the audio.
Looking at the script/brief, how accurate do you think this sound will be to create a tense atmosphere?
I think the sounds of the door, music and clicking do well in establishing the tension and also establishes that
the character is oblivious as he cant hear, therefore when the sound is inevitably used it can raise tension
for the scene as it is a payoff to a risk within the film.
Do the sounds fit in with the genre? If so why/why not
The sounds do fit in with the genre and the place of the movie as teenagers are the focus point of the
characters and the music playing create an ignorance, the brief also says that it is a lead off a quiet place
and in a quiet place the name alone suggests that silence is key and therefore introducing diegetic music allows
for the audience to understand inherent risk.
Do they help create meaning and are the sounds suitable for the scene/shot?
The sound effects are suitable for the enclosed quiet studying student, however they are used in order to fill
space and to keep the audience distracted from the appearance of a threat.
What post-production techniques could make this better?
Techniques like surround reverb would allow for the scene to have extra depth as the sound would sound
more evil and as a greater threat, specifically the clicking, it would sound like a monster rather than another
human or just a teacher coming into the classroom.
